Mistakenly deleted a reconciled transaction from March 2020

I mistakenly deleted a reconciled transaction from March 2020.

I initially thought I had recorded a transaction twice with the incorrect date, but after I deleted it my reconciliation was still showing out of balance by the same amount. I checked my Transaction Journal for the date that showed on the deleted transaction and I saw that I had in fact deleted the original transaction from that date.

I was using the original transaction from March 2020 to create a "recurring" transaction. I must have changed something or recorded it by mistake for it to show up in the reconcillation.

As this transaction is in the last tax year I doubt that I could 'undo' my reconcilliations up to this date, so I'm not sure how to re-enter this transaction now.

I'm hoping someone can assist me please?

Thanks so much.

Regards

Kim

  • Hi KimMarks

Thanks for your post. If a transaction has become unreconciled or been deleted in error the only way to fix the bank reconciliation is to undo the previous bank recs and re-reconcile. This means that you will need to undo all the bank reconciliations, re-record that transaction and then re-do the reconciliations.

Before undoing the bank recs though I recommend taking a backup of your file. I'd also recommend having a printed copy of all the bank recs, you can use them to re-reconcile quickly by selecting all transactions in the Reconcile Accounts window and then untick the transactions in the Outstanding Cheques/Deposits on the report.

Please let me know if you need further help.

Thanks so much for your reply Tracey.

I wasn't sure that I was able to undo my reconcillations back that far.

Yes, I thought I would have the all of my printed reconcilliations handy, so that I could re-reconcile once the deleted transaction was re-entered.

Thank you so much again for your assistance.

      Kind Regards

      Kim
