Can I mark a payroll category as inactive??

Does anyone know if you can mark a payroll category as inactive?
I'm tidying up for STP 2 and there's a stack of old payroll categories from previous bookkeepers that are no longer applicable and I'm having to categorise them for STP. Some of them are quite curly - I'm finding it difficult to work out what category they should be.
I'm not going to use them again. Rather than wasting time categorising them, can't I mark them as inactive??
None of them have been used for more than 1 full financial year ie since pre 01Jun21.

If the payroll category has been prviously used, you will be unable to delete/mark as inactive.
I did watch a STP webinar recently and they advised to put a 'Z' infront of the payroll category name so unused categories show up at the bottom of the list.
